Ian McCloy Island Swim The Ian McCloy Island Swim is part of the Sudbury
Fitness Challenge and is open to swimmers from the community, age group and
masters swim clubs. It's held every July in the clean, gorgeous waters
of Lake Nepahwin. Swimmers compete in 500-metre, 1.6K and 3.2-K events, as well
as a 100-metre swim for children aged 12 and under. The swim was founded in
1983. Ian McCloy's name was added after his passing in 2003. Ian, a
member of Laurentian Masters, was a National Master's record holder and a
dedicated swimmer and water polo player. The swim also serves as the
Northern Ontario open water championships.
